The Review

Call this Ayreon of AOR, this latest effort from Justin Murr and Friends, procures Liberty N' Justice's heaviest record yet. Featuring vocalists such as Sebastian Bach, Tony Harnell, Stephen Pearcy, Mark Slaughter, Oni Logan (Lynch Mob), among others, Soundtrack of a Soul is more than just an all star-lineup; it is a high feat of melodies that bring a whole new meaning to inspirational music. Built upon Christian themes, the music on this record runs through harder edged heavy cuts such as "Kings of Hollywood" (where Bach really sings out his aggression), the driving "Finch," and "Show me the Way," where the axe attack and punch are in full force, ala TNT & Leatherwolf. More melodic rock relevant cuts in the vein of Harem Scarem, Jagged Edge UK and FM include "Up that Hill," "Stage of Grace," "Always Tomorrow" as well the acoustic ballad "Malice in Wonderland," where the record is diverse in the material presented here, rather than it being a redundant consistent piece of music; for which there are plenty of melodies and hooks that provide the catchiness on this album. Besides the catchiness, the arrangements and guitar work add fuel to the fire on the record. So it's good to see a conceptual approach that is more song oriented than just being a soundscape of cinematic thoughts and gestures. But needless to say, Soundtrack to a Soul is in a cinematic class of its own. I guess you could say that this sets a new standard for the "melodic rock opera."
