The
Review |
After listening and watching the
new DVD I was very inspired. This is a must-see concert recorded
in Poland last June 2005. What a great concert for fans of
Pendragon and Arena! The two old friends make acoustic music
with class and style from the last 15 years (or so). Starting
off with the "Walls of Babylon" playing very precise and very
minimal together with only acoustic guitar and keyboards.
From the opening moments into the heart of the show Nick and
Clive displaying the true duo genius. Spattered by their comments
about alcohol and the usual touring methods, the diffence
displayed in this show is unique and bears the close friendship
and musical mind of these two musicians. It was so great to
hear songs like "Paintbox" (one of my favorite Pendragon songs)
played again in acoustic style along with surprise tracks
from bands like Strangers On A Train and Nolan's work with
Rick Wakeman's brother. This DVD offers a more rounded version
of these two musicians. There is not a bad track on the DVD
and it offers some insight into the bands Arena and Pendragon's
history.
My only complaint about the DVD
was the fact that the camera person did not go in close on
many of the solos. The photography is high quality and artistic,
however the camera person did not seem to be a musician. But
they did offer a crisp, clear image of the duo with occasional
nice pan-outs of the entire stage.
A funny spot on the interview section
was the fact that they have never heard of Porcupine Tree!
Also interesting was the sold out concerts in Chile! Chile
apparently has become the hot-bed for progressive music!
If you are a fan of these guys
you definately need to check this out!
