From Behind is one of those bands that brings rock and
roll back to basics within this era of extremes and overzealous
production, this project from Nicky Moore (the big guy who
replaced Dickinson in Samson and frontman for Mammoth) and
Nazareth's Manuel 'Manny' Carlton (guitar) really brings the
loose blues driven swagger of early NWOBHM and bands such
as Thin Lizzy & Mountain, with a raw and ballsy sound that
is often missing these days in the world of metal/hard rock.
***
With 'Game Over,' the band finds themselves portraying
a high metallic stance with "Queen Bitch," the dark "Family,"
and the screamer of "What You're Doing." Nevertheless, the
album pertains for the most part to 70's hard rock, particularly
with stand out tracks like "Catwalk," "Size Doesn't Matter,"
and "Crutch." No keyboards, no consistent pulsating double
bass, and no need for any of the glossy slick sound, these
guys just want to rock. ***
It's one of those records that goes back to basics, with
the Les Paul & Marshall, the soulful & powerful vocals, John
Bonham style drumming, and catchy songs, the game only begins
with 'Game Over.' It's just a great stripped down ride in
the world of AOR.
