So, have you ever wondered what would happen if Devil
Doll and Mr. Bungle made a record together with female, death,
screeching, and clean vocals while having a very scary acid
trip about Cirque Du Soleil? In case you have, this is the
band for you. Holy crap this is intense stuff. It is almost
too much even for me.
These guys come from Montreal, and are either genius or
insane. This is hyper-technical, stop on a dime, sometimes
sickly fast death metal, sometimes classical, sometimes accordion
driven scariness, sometimes clown on a rampage. About 12 different
vocalists sound like they are present here, and about as many
singing styles, including black metal, death, female vocals,
croaking, speaking, shouting, chants, and choirs. Nothing
can prepare you for this. John Gabbard asked me when I would
choose to listen to these guys and ... well... I think if
I was having a nervous breakdown and had already abandoned
my sanity.
No - seriously - there is a lot to like here if you are
daring. There is a method to the madness - and only the brave
hearted can find it. I actually listen to this album almost
all the way through - I only skip track 5 because it is little
more than noise. The rest is nearly an hour of scary, very
talented and technical fun. Oh, by the way - there are so
many musicians here it is tough to keep track, but there are
saxes, prog keys, electric and acoustic guitars, accordions,
strings galore, and TONS of piano. You owe it to yourself
to at least go to these guys' website and listen to the sample
track - it will alter your personality. Recommended for the
daring.
Rating: 3.5 stars when I am in the mood.
