The
Review |
What a pleasant album this is. Willowglass is essentially
a one man affair with Andrew Marshall doing all of the work
save the drums. I am usually very wary of albums in this vein,
but I must say this is an exception. With the exception of
4 shorter tracks that are mainly classical guitar interludes,
the majority of this album is Genesis-inspired prog heaven
(albeit on the lighter side of things, generally). You have
loads of analog keys including mellotron with some fantastic
melodies. Marshall can really write a great instrumental tune
(no vocals anywhere to be found here) and his guitar playing
is not too shabby either. Nothing flashy here - mostly laid
back, very melodious songs with a sound fully modeled after
Foxtrot and Selling England era Genesis with definite nods
to Camel and Floyd. Reminds me of Submarine Silence (another
great instrumental prog release) although this one is a bit
more mellow. Recommended for unwinding after a tough day with
a nice glass of Belgian Ale. Good stuff.
