Not as clever by half as it thinks it is, "10 Items
or Less" is a well meaning effort from director Brad Siberling
("Lemony Snicket;s A Series of Unfortunate Events") that
strands a famous movie star (Morgan Freeman playing.Morgan
Freeman I suppose since he refers to the famous movie he
and Ashley Judd) and plops him in the middle of nowhere
(well, compared to Los Angeles anyway)-Carson, Claifornia
where he meets a clerk (Paz Vega from "Spanglish") in Archie's
Ranch Market. While there the "actor" helps the clerk prepping
her for an interview and helping her clean her car. ***
While the plot doesn't exactly sound compelling, Freeman
and Vega both give extremely good performances that help
to elevate student film material above its station. Although
the material is slight director Silberling does keeps his
direction imaginative enough to keep the audience engaged.
While nothing much happens and often you'll feel like you're
standing in line waiting for the check out person, "10 Items
or Less" is a pleasant but unmemorable way to pass the time.

Image & Sound:
"10 Items or Less" looks quite good with nice crisp
images and bright colors. Audio sounds solid as well with
dialogue front and center. ---
