21 Jump Street, the show that launched Johnny Depp to
stardom arrives in the season five DVD set. The show chronicles
a team of undercover cops who pose as teenagers in order
to take down criminals. I think it's important to note that
FOX originally cancelled the show after the fourth season,
and that this fifth season aired in syndication off network.
With that being said there were a number of significant
changes to the series that hurt the show. Most notably is
that Johnny Depp left the show (although you wouldn't know
it based on the cover) and the budget of the show took a
sharp decline. The producers could no longer afford big
name guest stars to help boost the show. However, despite
all these issues, the show's quality kept up to par with
the other seasons. Sure there were some weaker storylines,
but considering everything that changed, the writers kept
the show something that was worth watching.
Image & Sound: All 23 episodes are presented in their
original 4:3 aspect ratio. Video quality will be the same
as it was when it was broadcast. The set also comes with
a Dolby 2.0 stereo mix which does everything it needs to.

Final Words:

Fans of the show will enjoy
being able to complete their collection, but if the only reason
you watched the show was for Johnny Depp then don't be fooled
by the cover. He does appear in an episode on this set, but
it was originally shot for the fourth season. So technically
Johnny Depp is not in this season. The series does continue
it's character relations and it continues to address serious
social issues. |
