The Review:

Those wacky aliens finally come to DVD. “3rd Rock from the Sun” captured 31 Emmy nominations during its 5 year run and why? Because the cast was among the best on TV and the sharp, witty writing kept the series fresh throughout most of its 5 year run. Dick Solomon, Kristen Johnston, French Stewart and Joseph Gordon-Levitt kept America in stitches during its five year run.

Image and Sound: As we discover in “3rd Rock from the Sun” looks COULD be deceiving. Luckily, they’re not here. A sharp, colorful looking transfer for “3rd Rock from the Sun” is a real highlight of this first season set. The stereo sound comes across with nice presence and makes pretty good use of the format placing sound effects and dialog nicely between both channels.
The Extras:

We get a number of interviews with the cast members as part of the extras in this particularly package. There’s also “episode previews” for the next episode as well as some very entertaining bloopers. It’s also fun to look through the script provided as part of the DVD-Rom on the last disc. “3rd Rock: Behind the Scenes” is an entertaining featurette on the creation, casting and shooting of the series. Finally, we get a collectible booklet that’s 16 pages providing classic photos from the series. ---

Commentary: No commentary tracks for the series which is the one area this set could be improved.
Final Words: A really nice set from Anchor Bay, “3rd Rock From The Sun: The Complete 1st Season” will be a delightful trip back into the recent past for comedy fans. If you love a combination of slap-stick, verbal humor and funny, inventive situations, “3rd Rock” is for you. Or perhaps you’re being a “Big Head” about it all and think you’re beyond enjoying a silly series like this. If so, you’re denying yourself a delightful treat.
