Review:

30 Rock has run for 3 seasons now, and the show has maintained an excellent reputation. Starring faces such as Alec Baldwin, Tina Fey, Tracy Morgan, Jack McBrayer and Jane Krakowski, the laughs don’t stop. Season 3 is no exception. =

***

The show follows the woman running a variety series – and the obstacles that come with this. Amongst the difficulties in running the series are dealing with interference from corporate personalities, drama with stars of the show, and trying to live a fairly normal life. Thankfully, the writers have tons of fresh plots and elements to tell excellent stories with these characters – and the results show in every episode. ***

One of the great things about 30 Rock is the show’s ability to attract A-list guest stars. The third season is no exception, featuring appearances by Oprah Winfrey, Steve Martin, Clay Aiken, Mary J. Blige, Sheryl Crow, Elvis Costello, Steve Buscemi, Alan Alda, Peter Dinklage and plenty of others. ***

After watching this set, I was reminded of why 30 Rock has been such a hit for the network. If you haven’t discovered the show yet, Season 3 would be an excellent place to jump in. Great cast, sharp writing, and A-list guest stars make the third time around the charm for 30 Rock. ---

Image and Sound:

The image quality here is very good, which is not unexpected considering its nature as a recent television series. Colors and detail are strong and there aren’t any maj or negative issues to speak of. Audio is front-heavy being that this is a dialogue-intensive show, but there some moments here and there where your speakers will get a workout. All in all the show looks excellent.

Special Features:

The disc includes an assortment of bonus features – definitely more than most TV shows have by the time a season as late as the third comes around. Deleted scenes from the episode appear on this disc – rightfully cut from their respective episodes but a worthwhile view for any fan. We also get a table read for the Season Finale, and behind-the-scenes footage. Rounding out the set is a photo gallery and a “making of” featurette for the instant classic “He Needs A Kidney” episode.

Final Words:

All in all, this is an excellent set for an excellent show – and it comes strongly recommended for any fan.
