Season eight of the long-running family drama 7th Heaven
consists of all 23 episodes -- opening with a two-parter,
in which college-bound Simon (David Gallagher) struggles
to come to terms with the automobile accident in which he
was saved by the grace of God but still feel guilty over
his part that left one person dead. Not even the godly wisdom
and fellowship of the Rev. Eric (Stephen Collins) and the
entire Camden family could comfort him. ***
There also has been good -- and bad -- news this season,
as Mary (Jessica Biel) returns to give her family with an
"expected" surprise -- or should I say, two? Matt (Barry
Watson) also returns this season, as he reaches a crossroad
with his marriage and medical school. Meanwhile, Ruthie
(MacKenzie Rosman) goes through the trials and tribulations
of having a boyfriend while helping her parents raise twins
Sam and David, Lucy and Kevin celebrate their one-year anniversary
as newlyweds, and Annie (Catherine Hicks) coming to terms
with the death of her father. ***
The two-part finale finds the entire family back together,
when Matt, Simon, and Ruthie are each dealing with their
own romantic trials and tribulations, as Eric and Annie
fly to New York to witness the birth of their first grandchild
-- even though Mary doesn't want them there. ***
