7th Heaven premiered in 1996. The brainchild of legendary
television producer Aaron Spelling, the show lasted over
a decade, and during its time on the air, was the highest-rated
show on the WB. ***
This 5-disc set brings together all 22 episodes that
comprised the series 9th season on the air. ***
For the unfamiliar, 7th Heaven is a family drama series
about a minister, his wife, and their 7 children. The show
follows their lives and the various situations they find
themselves in. The multi-talented cast and intelligent writing
made this one of the most intelligent and heartwarming shows
of recent years. Like all seasons, this one had no shortage
of guest stars, including Wayne Newton, Louise Fletcher,
and Edie McClurg. ***
By the time most TV series hit season 9 they are on
their dying breath and the writers are rehashing ideas.
Fortunately, 7th Heaven doesn’t fall victim to that curse.
While this was one of the last seasons of the show, it’s
clear the writers never stopped caring about writing quality
stories with these characters we have fallen for over the
years. That said, it’s hard not to recommend this season
– one of the show’s best so far. ---
Image and Sound:
A solid transfer, not at all unlike the earlier seasons.
If you’ve seen the picture quality in any earlier set, you’ll
know what to expect here. The picture is clear and vibrant
throughout with very few negative issues to speak of. Audio
is naturally front-heavy, as this is a dialogue-laden drama.
There really aren’t many faults with this transfer.
