"Tori Amos: Video Collection Fade to Red"
Reviewer:
Wayne A. Klein
Studio: Rhino/WEA
Genre: Music Video
Release:
2/7/06
Special Features: Two bonus videos, audio commentary
Review:

Tori Amos took the video (and music world) by storm the singer/songwriter immediately drew comparisons to Kate Bush as they both have similar voices, songwriting styles, etc. Amos' music is compelling despite all of these similarities. "Fade to Red" is a two disc set including 21 of Amos' videos from over the years.

Image & Sound---

A top notch transfer is a highlight of this set. Although image quality varies depending on its source (i.e., if it was filmed, shot on analog video or digital video, etc.) the transfer is true to the source with robust colors and a powerful 5.1 mix. Listening to Jon Astley's remastered/remixed 5.1 for "Past the Mission" will give your system a nice workout with its dynamics."Hey Jupitar" looked terrific and its look was only surpassed by its audio mix. Sure the video is nice but just listening to the music allows it to conjure up your own little video. ---

Special Features: There are two bonus videos included in the set. The first "Cornflake Girl" is the U.K. version that never aired in the United States. The second "Professional Widow Remix" features an unusual remix of the original track. We also get commentary tracks from Amos on the videos. Amos comments are occasionally a bit...off the wall but you'll always learn something about her music if you take a listen to them. ---

Final Words:

A nice set for fans of Amos' music the extras are a plus. I was a bit surprised to see commentary tracks for the videos. That would be a cool practice for other artists to try out as well. Image quality is exceptionally good for many of these videos and the music is always fun to listen to as well.
