The glamorous version of CBS' Dallas, ABC's Dynasty
followed wealthy oil businessman Blake Carrington (John
Forsythe) and his family in Denver. Featuring shoulder-pads,
over-the-top storylines, and legendary catfights between
villainous ex-wife Alexis (Joan Collins) and virtuous Krystle
(Linda Evans), the series continued to be a powerhouse for
both uber-producer Aaron Spelling and ABC during the 1980s
-- reaching number three in the ratings in its fourth season.
***
The first half of season four (14 episodes) finds Blake
separated from wife Krystal yet plans to win her back. Meanwhile,
he engages in a custody battle with son Steven (Heroes'
Jack Coleman) over the upbringing of his grandson due to
his homosexuality. It reached its pinnacle in the two-part
"Hearing", as Steven makes a desperate yet bold move to
keep his son. Michael Nader (All My Children) joined the
cast later in season four as Farnsworth "Dex" Dexter, who
became Alexis' third husband as well as her second true
love -- after Blake. ***
