Review:

Eleventh Hour was the latest TV crime drama from legendary producer Jerry Bruckheimer – the producer who produced the instant classic CSI and feature films such as Top Gun and the Pirates of the Caribbean series. Despite strong promise, Eleventh Hour was given the axe after a season and a half. ***

This 6-disc set contains all 18 episodes of the show that were made and aired. The episodes are presented in a 16:9 aspect ratio. ***

The series is based on the UK television series of the same name. The show follows the adventures of a genius scientist and a female FBI agent who specialize in solving crimes for the Bureau which are of highly unusual natures. ***

Eleventh Hour does have its share from issues and it was far from being a perfect show. But it had one thing going for it no other show that premiered last year did – Rufus Sewell. This guy brings life into our hero like no one else could have. His sense of humor is one of the kind and makes him one of the more memorable characters in crime drama series of recent years. Marley Shelton is equally impressive as his female counterpart FBI agent. The two make for a very memorable pair. ***

It’s a shame CBS pulled the plug on Eleventh Hour, as the series had great potential. Still, what little did get out is available in this set at long last – making it a worthwhile buy or any fan of the series or genre. ---

Image and Sound:

The show gets a competent transfer for this DVD release. The image quality here is free of any major issues, but at the same time it isn’t an “award-winning” transfer with sharp detail you’d get out of a major movie recently released on home video. Audio is a bit flat at times, but for the most part does the series justice. Given the source material, I doubt the show will ever look any better on the DVD format than it does here.

Final Words:

Eleventh Hour was a terrific crime drama series – it’s a shame it was so short lived. This is a good set with a good presentation, though the lack of extras is a bit of a disappointment. At the same time, though, that doesn’t stop me from recommending it for fans of the show and the genre.
