Everybody Hates Chris is the half-hour series based
on comedian Chris Rock's teenage years during 1980s New
York, with Tyler James Williams in the title role, along
with Terry Crews and Tichina Arnold (Martin) as his tough,
strict, yet hardworking and loving parents. The series was
a breakout hit with critics and audiences when it debuted
in the fall of 2005 -- earning multiple Emmy, Golden Globe,
and Teen Choice Awards nominations during its run that had
guest stars like Oscar winner Whoopi Goldberg, Jason Alexander
(Seinfeld), and even Chris Rock himself made an appearance
as Chris' guidance counselor. ***
The fourth and final season finds Chris entering high
school, as the show moved to the "Friday night death slot"
against CBS' Ghost Whisperer, but viewers were rather crossover
to see Jennifer Love Hewitt, and ratings for Chris were
low, leading the CW to not renew the series for a fifth
season, as Rock decides to end the series with his character
deciding what he wants to do with his life -- an comedian,
no less. However, the show has been picked up for syndication,
as Nick at Nite will start reairing Everybody Hates Chris
from the beginning starting September 7. ***
