“The Jude Garland Show Volume 2” arrives on DVD with
the amazing Lena Horne, folk singer Judy Henske and comedian
Terry Thomas as her guests. Garland performs a number of
Broadway musical highlights as part of this program including
“Hey< look Me Over” and “Day in, Day Out” with Horne. Originally
produced for TV in 1963, Garland’s show proved to be a showcase
for artists to reach the much bigger audience that TV provided
at the time. ***
Other guests include Count Basie and musician/singer
Mel Torme appears as the band leader and leads a terrific
performance of “Fascinating Rhythm”. ---
Image & Sound:
The series receives a nice transfer with a digitally
restored and remastered release of the show. The show looks
surprisingly good with a fairly crisp presentation and nice
color reproduction. *** We get a choice of the original
mono soundtrack or a newly created Surround track. ---

Features: |
We get outtakes, deleted footage and rehearsal footage
which has, surprisingly, survived the ravages of time. We
also get a rehearsal number between Garland and Lena Horne
that is far superior to the aired version. We also get the
rehearsals for the comedy skits . ---

Final Words:

Fans of vintage variety shows
like this and Judy Garland in particular will enjoy this set.
I’m pleasantly surprised that we have extras associated with
the show. |
