Review:

You ever heard the saying: you fall in love with the first person you meet? Well, that happened with Romeo & Juliet, Dharma & Greg (1997-2002, ABC) and now overseas with Gavin & Stacey. Now available on DVD, all six episodes of the award-winning show's first season follows the couple's whirlwind courtship. ***

Gavin (Mathew Horne) & Stacey (Joanna Page) have spent months talking to one another on the phone while at work, and though they developed a close relatonship, they've never met. This sets up the premise of the pilot, as the pair meet face-to-face in London. Throughout the season, the couple falls in love, gets engaged, meet their in-laws, and began to discover things about each other. For instance, Gavin finds out that Stacey was engaged -- six times! Can their love overcome the obstacles ahead just in time for the wedding -- that is, if there's ever going to be a wedding? ***

Winner of the 2008 British Comedy Awards for "Best TV Comedy", viewership for Gavin & Stacey has estimated from a little over a half-million in season one to between 1.5 and almost two million in season two. The series is currently in production for its third season, which Jones said it will be the last, but there are plans of an American version by ABC; no word yet on the casting as well as more of the adaptation. ***

Special Features:

Audio commentaries from co-stars and writers Ruth Jones (Nessa) and James Corden (Smithy), and director Christine Gernon; outtakes; a look at the couple's first meeting in Leicester Square, and "How it Happened" (how the series came to life) Garrett Edward Godwin

Final Words:

Gavin & Stacey proves once again that you can fall in love at first sight, and see why with season one available on DVD. ***
