Review:

The fourth season of “Ghost Whisperer” introduced major change to the series some of which derailing the momentum of the series and pushing fans to the edge by killing off a major character, reintroducing him in “another” form, distracting viewers by playing a “is he” or “isn’t he” really that person game and the introduction of a brand new character named Eli that didn’t gel well with the cast or the characters they played. ***

Melinda (Jennifer Love Hewitt) is confused; her husband dies and somehow his spirit ends up in the body of someone else and she gets her signals crossed because she has memories of her relationship marriage with Jim (David Conrad)and his new form. Is he the same person? ***

All of this indecisive storytelling meant that the show was in neutral during the 4th season going nowhere fast. ---

Image & Sound:

A very nice looking transfer with bright colors, nice detail and accurate skin tones “Ghost Whisperer” looks as good as the previous three seasons and it also suffers from some of the same flaws as those sets with ghosting and edge enhancement. The series looks good in its anamorphic widescreen presentation. ***

Audio sounds extremely good with a nice 5.1 mix. The show is closed captioned ---

Special Features:

We get a number of good featurettes as well as installments from the webseries that goes outside of Melinda’s world. ***

“Grave Mistakes” is an interactive game where you march through a spooky cemetery; we also get an interactive ghost filled dollhouse where Jim is trapped and you must try and help him escape. ***

There’s also an interactive fashion style guideline where we are able to see the costumes of the show and they, well, “come to life”. ***

“Love Never Dies” features cast and crew interviews along with clips from the show discussing the fourth season. ***

“The Jamie Kennedy Experiment” focuses on the casting of Jaime Kennedy in the show and how his arrival has impacted (for good and bad) the chemistry of the cast and storytelling. Finally composer Mark Snow discusses his approach to composing music for the show. ---

Final Words:

“Ghost Whisperer: The Complete Fourth Season” looks pretty good and while the fourth season is more problematic than the other three seasons, fans will still enjoy the series even if the fourth season largely treads water. ***

Extras are extremely good with interactive special features as well as a couple of solid featurettes on the change in casting, costumes, scoring and the introduction of comedian/actor Jaime Kennedy.
