Though not the longest-running crime show on television
anymore, Hawaii Five-O still ranks in the top two with first-place
Law & Order, as the CBS series (1968-80) follow the cases
of McGarrett and his team of Untouchables keeping Hawaii
safe and sunny. In season seven, the Five-O unit takes on
kidnappers, extorionists, murderers, drug smugglers, and
organized crime figures like archnemesis Wo Fat, who tries
to assassinate an visiting foreign minister the team's assigned
to protect. ***
Guest stars on this set includes Lesile Nielsen (Airplane,
The Naked Gun), Perry King (Riptide, Melrose Place), and
Jessica Walter (Arrested Development), as McGarrett is on
the hunt for his shooters, falls in love, tries to stop
a mob war, and fights with a police captain over a murder/kidnapping
case with guest star Linda Purl (Matlock). McGarrett shares
the characterstics of Dragnet's Joe Friday, Elliot Ness,
and CSI: Miami's Horatio Caine: an incorrupt, honorable,
humble, public servant and relentless crusader against injustice
-- and looks good doing it. ***
