Review:

Hollywood – The Dark Side – Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe covers the lives of these two Hollywood legends. ***

Hollywood – The Dark Side – Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe is a documentary that focuses on two of Hollywood’s biggest names ever. From the good times to the bad, including various films and scandals, the documentary turns their lives inside out, exposing the history of their lives from beginning to end. ***

All in all, there is a lot of ground covered in this relatively-short documentary (it clocks in at just over an hour.) There is a wealth of information on Sinatra and Monroe, as well as the scandals that plagued their lives. Admittedly, due to its short run time and sheer amount of life these stars lived, it doesn’t get a chance to go in-depth with every last detail of their lives. That said, if you’ve ever extensively studied the careers of these stars, you probably won’t learn anything new here. Just the same, though, this is a good documentary and it brings all of this information together in one handy source. ---

Image and Sound:

As a documentary, this feature consists largely of archival footage, so the image and sound quality throughout differs greatly, based on a variety of factors. That said, everything on this disc looks and sounds pretty good, especially considering the age of some of the material in question.

Special Features:

There are no direct “bonus features” on this disc, however a bonus episode of the series is included, which covers the famous Blondes of Hollywood. A nice extra feature, though I wish there had been more bonus content on the disc.

Final Words:

This is a good documentary, and is definitely recommended to anyone who is interested in the history of Hollywood and its classic actors. Die-hards who have already watched similar documentaries probably won’t learn anything new here, but that said, it’s still a terrific documentary. Recommended.
