Comedy

Jackass World, Credits Montage, Commentary

Review:

Jackass began airing in 2000 – and since then the world of television has never been the same. Whether that’s a good or bad thing depends on the viewer. ***

Co-created by Johnny Knoxville (who has since pursued an acting career), Jackass is reality television at its finest – not to mention its dumbest. Essentially (for the unfamiliar), the show involves the cast performing a mixture of dangerous and disgusting stunts and tasks – all for the sake of entertaining television audiences. ***

Jackass is the kind of show you’ll either love or hate. These men are either very brave or very stupid, but either way, they won’t fail to make you laugh or make your jaw fall in amazement – whether their stunts succeed or go awry. That’s just the kind of show this is, and it isn’t hard to see why it quickly became a massive hit on MTV (spawning two feature films!), not to mention the network’s most controversial show since Beavis and Butt-Head – despite a disclaimer in the opening credits. ***

This DVD is comp rised of footage from the series that, for some reason or another, didn’t make it onto the earlier DVD sets, much to the dismay of fans. MTV attempts to right past wrongs by putting this set out and finally making this footage available on home video, but it really makes you wonder why they didn’t just include this stuff in the season sets to begin with. ---

Image and Sound:

Image quality is all over the place considering the “on location” filming style Jackass employs. Many of these scenes have very poor picture quality compared to what can actually be seen on the other legit DVD releases, while some look good enough that they could easily have aired on TV. It’s a very mixed bag, though the entire disc is certainly more than watchable. The same can be said of the audio due to the nature of the filming style.

Special Features:

In addition to the footage that comprises the disc, this set also includes a Jackass World featurette, which any fan of the show will want to check out. A credits montage combines plenty of hilarious end-credits moments from the show, and commentary tracks also appear. Not too much bonus material here, but it’s better than nothing.

Final Words:

Jackass never fails to please, whether you’re laughing at these guys or just wondering how they could be so stupid. Either way, this set contains a lot of great stuff that didn’t make it into earlier sets, and is well worth picking up if you’re a fan.
