1985 was not only the year that Michael J. Fox went
Back to the Future, but it was also the year that audiences
went Back to the Future as well, with The Jetsons. Called
by Wikipedia as "the space age counterpart to The Flintstones",
the series follows George, wife Judy, children Judy and
Elroy, robo-maid Rosie, and family dog Astro in the peaceful
21st century. The show debuted on ABC in the fall of 1962,
and only lasted one season in primetime. However, thanks
to reruns in syndication, it became more popular than ever,
and new episodes began production. ***
The Jetsons' second season premiered in September 1985,
and has been divided into two volumes on DVD. Volume One
is a three-disc set that contains 21 episodes, where the
series has become brand-new. This set includes the introduction
of the family alien pet Orbitty, Spacely's inventor brother
Orwell, and George's work computer R.U.D.I. (Referential
Universal Digitial Indexer). ***
In part one of this updated version, Rosie decides
to leave home, as the Jetsons realizes her contribution
to the family; Judy gets a surprise birthday party, as a
Family Feud takes place in the future between the Jetsons
and the Spacelys; George and Jane remember when they first
met as they decide to renew their vows, as the family decides
to go Fantasy Planet but soon choose to come back to reality,
and Jane gets the power of second sight, while Elroy and
Astro goes into space and discovers they have "The Wrong
Stuff". ***
