Review:

Knots Landing is the spin-off from David Jacobs, the man who created the mega-hit Dallas (1978-91). Knots debuted on CBS in 1979, a year after Dallas started to take-off. The series chronicled Gary Ewing (Ted Shackelford), the black sheep of the family who is also an recovering alcoholic, as he and his wife Val (Joan Van Ark) moved to the cul-de-sac known as Knots Landing. During the beginning, Knots wasn't a runaway smash like Dallas -- ranking in the Top 30 in its first two seasons. ***

Season two (18 episodes) marked the introduction of Abby Fairgate (Donna Mills), who went on to become Knots' vixen. Her penchant for causing trouble started with causing more friction in the marriage between Gary and Val by making sure that Val knows about Gary's infidelity. In one episode, criminals took over a baby shower, and Abby "saved the day" by seducing one of them. Abby Fairgate has been called by Wikipedia as the precursor of Dynasty's Alexis Carrington Colby (Joan Collins) and Falcon Crest's Angela Channing (Jane Wyman). ***

Final Words:

Like Heather Locklear on Melrose Place, Donna Mills shaked things up on Knots Landing. Come back to the cul-de-sac for season two of Knots Landing on DVD. ***
