Review:

"The Last House On The Left" is an update to Wes Craven's movie of the same name from (1978). It focuses on teenage Mari (Sarah Paxton.) She's on vacation with her parents (Monica Potter, Tony Goldwin.) ***

Of course, if you have seen the original, you will know that the house in which the family is staying in will play a very important role in the last act of the movie. She (Paxton) decides to make a fateful trip into a nearby town with her friend, they encounter trouble and are left for dead by a group of thugs who rape and abuse them. . ***

Of course, once the parents find out what happened, they try to get vengeance upon the criminals. I won't reveal how the thugs get theirs, but think "Saw" meets "Death Warrant" and you'll get the idea. Yes, they do die most horrifically, or as the new movies tag line said, "How Far Would You Go For Vengeance?" ---

Image and Sound:

Overall the picture quality is good. It has some heavy grain to it at times, but through and through the detail is quite good. I wouldn't put this in the upper tier of Blu-Ray transfers of recent films, but it's still solid throughout. Audio gets the job done and then some, only being loud when it needs to be. All in all a good transfer. ---

Special Features:

Not a whole lot of features on the disc, but there's still a decent assortment that should please any fan. Featurettes and deleted scenes appear here, and any die-hard will definitely want to give these a look. BD-Live content is also is also included. It's not a big package of special features, but it's still a solid collection of bonus material I doubt any fan will be disappointed.

Final Words:

The new version of "Last House On The Left" is as unsettling as the original 1978 version, perhaps even more. So if you're into a more intense film that's more suspense then horror, then this is a must buy.
