Life of Ryan was a series that ran on MTV for only
three seasons. This was one of the channel’s many reality
series of recent years, following the life of teenage skateboarding
prodigy Ryan Sheckler. All three seasons are compiled in
this set. ***
Despite his age, Ryan Sheckler can skateboard with
the best of ‘em. Even in his youth, he was set numerous
records and won a ton of awards. Of course, it ain’t easy
being Ryan. The teen has to juggle his professional life
of skateboarding glory with his home life, including being
a son, sibling, and lover. It’s a lot of work, but it’s
just another day in the Life of Ryan. ***
I for one am sick of seeing nothing but reality shows
on MTV (which, may I remind everyone, stands for MUSIC Television.)
But despite this, Life of Ryan actually came as a pleasant
surprise. It’s a show that grows on you, due in no small
part to the fact that, whether you’re a rich celebrity or
a typical working-class person, you’ll be able to relate
to Ryan’s home life. No, I don’t have millions of dollars
or a skate park in my back yard. But who amongst us hasn’t
had to juggle roles with family and friends? ***
Life of Ryan is a terrific series that MTV pulled the
plug on too early. Compared to other reality programming
on the channel, this show came as a breath of fresh air.
If you were a fan, you can’t pass it up. ---
Image and Sound:
It looks and sounds like you’d expect an MTV reality
program to. There are no major visual issues with this set,
and the audio is fantastic as well. Since it was recorded
recently, it obviously wasn’t in need of any sort of remastering,
so it actually ends up looking and sounding pretty good
on its own merits. MTV scores major points for this transfer.
