“The Looney Looney Looney Bugs Bunny Movie"
Reviewer:
Taylor Carlson
Studio: Warner Bros.
Genre:
TV-Series
Release Date:
4/28/09
Special Features:

Three additional cartoons

Review:

The Looney Looney Looney Bugs Bunny Movie is directed by Friz Freleng, and features the vocal talents of Mel Blanc. It was originally released in 1981 (although the source cartoons, in many cases, date back much further.) ***

This movie is, essentially, a compilation of classic Looney Tunes shorts combined together with some new footage in an effort to create a new “movie” from existing footage. The film is divided into three main sections – the first involves Yosemite Sam making a deal with Satan himself to get back at Bugs Bunny, the second involves a group of gangsters, and the third an awards show. ***

There’s no denying that Warner Bros.’ animation studios made some great cartoons over the years. And this movie is a terrific compilation of some of the company’s finest output over a several-decade period. Granted, it’s mostly recycled footage and you can get several of these cartoons in their stand-alone original film in the Golden Collection sets, but I’m not complaining. If you want to get one movie that showcases what Looney Tunes and its characters are all about, you’ve found it here. ***

The true talent that needs to be mentioned here, as with any review regarding classic Warner Bros. animation, is Mel Blanc. This guy voiced ALL the classic Looney Tunes characters you have grown to know and love over the years, and no review of anything Looney Tunes-related is complete without mentioning the immense contributions he made to this franchise – and he continued doing these voices up until his death in 1989. ***

Long story short – no fan of the Looney Tunes franchise or Warner Bros. animation should be without this movie – at long last on DVD. ---

Image and Sound:

The production quality on this disc isn’t half bad. The presentation is featured in its original theatrical aspect ratio, and the audio and video are clean and clear throughout. There really are no major flaws worth mentioning, it looks and sounds terrific.

Special Features:

Three additional cartoons are included as bonus features, though these are shorts from the 90s that lack the excellence of the classic shorts used to create the movie. Still, better than no bonus features at all.

Final Words:

All in all, this is a great movie, though the shorts used to assemble it work better as stand-alone entertainment. Still, I’m not arguing. If you’re a fan of Looney Tunes/Warner Bros. animation, this is worth adding to your collection.
