Review:

The Lucy Show is a long-awaited DVD arrival for fans of Lucille Ball, who is still one of the most legendary icons in television history. Featuring all 30 season-one episodes, this second of three successful Ball sitcoms follows Lucy Carmicheal (Ball) , a widow with son Jerry (Garrett), sharing living and utility expenses with divorced friend Vivian Bagley (Vivian Vance) and son Sherman (Ralph Hart) in Danfield, CT. ***

In the first season, Lucy's trust fund -- left by her late husband -- was managed by local banker Mr. Barnsdahl (Charles Lane), as she found romance that year with comedian Dick Martin as her boyfriend. Like I Love Lucy, The Lucy Show was in the Top 10 throughout the show' six years on CBS and gave Ball two Emmy Awards for Outstanding Actress in a Comedy during the latter half of its run. ***

Ball's ex-husband and former co-star Desi Arnaz was one of the executive producers in the first season, and Vance's character has been stated as the first divorcee on network television before Bonnie Franklin's Ann Romero on One Day at a Time. You could also say that this show is one of the predecessors to Kate & Allie, about two divorced women with children who shares a brownstone in New York. ***

Special Features:

Newly recorded interviews with Lucille Ball and Jimmy Garrett; 1962 "Opening Night" Special; clip of the long-lost headdress recreated from I Love Lucy; clip of Lucy introducing the series with Jack Benny, Andy Griffith, Gary Moore & Danny Thomas; original network sponsor openings, closing, and cast commercials; classic network promos; segment of I Love Lucy merchandise; cast bios; production notes

Final Words:

From DVDivas.net, it is The Lucy Show starring the ever-lovable Lucille Ball and Vivian Bagley, and they're finally coming to DVD July 21.
