The Review

Trent Gardner and Co. have returned with their latest disc 'Impossible Figures', for release on the Inside Out label. Magellan have been crafting their progressive rock style for over ten years now, in the style of Yes meets prog metal. Personally, I think this is about the best they've had it so far. The previous album 'Hundred Year Flood' was a bit too complex and lacked sufficient melodies to keep my attention. Thankfully, they have continued to utilize a real drummer. The compositions here are well written and have plenty of cool changes and breaks, with good solos and dynamics. Basically, if you liked 'Test Of Wills', you'll probably like this too. This is majestic and powerful prog. I still have trouble getting used to Trent Gardner's thin and monophonic voice, and the drums still sound like they were recorded in a cardboard box, but this is their best yet. The track 'Late For Church' kicks it pretty good. rating: 6.5 of 10 (Eric Louis)
