Review:

The advertisement suggests that "Miracle" focuses on "the true story behind the greatest sports moment in history". Well, I dunno bout that. It seems to me the Yankees winning streak with Babe Ruth and Lou Gerig could qualify for that title or the San Francisco 49er's string of Super Bowl victories with QB Joe Montana and receiver Jerry Rice at the helm. Most unexpected sports moment in history, yes, greatest.it all depends on your perspective and love of sports. Kismet, karma, fate call it what you will but it wasn't sheer, blind doo-dah luck. The US Olympic Hockey team blasted onto the ice in 1980 with a take-no-prisoners attitude sure that they might not win but willing to throw caution to the wind in an attempt to best other countries in a sport the US had never won Olympic Gold for. "Miracle" recounts the tall but true tale with clichés, gusto and a number of great performances. ***

Kurt Russell gives a marvelous performance as the late Herb Brooks the coach for the US Hockey Team. Brooks took a number of talented athletes, shaped their individual strengths into a powerful and award winning team. The film follows Brooks as he beats a team that played as individuals looking for their moment of glory into a seamless fighting unit that could take on the Soviets and other experienced and better ranked teams in the 1980 Olympics. "Miracle" is an often moving story with a number of surprising performances. Russell ( whose hair style looks like an animal crawled on his head and died) has always been an underappreciated, skilled and subtle performer. Here he takes Brooks and makes the character come alive on the screen. You believe that Russell is Brooks (which might explain the hair-it's all part of the transformation). ---

Image & Sound:

Prepared from a brand new high def transfer, “Miracle” looks extremely nice. The transfer looks crisp, sharp and colors pop in this truly exceptional transfer. ***

Audio sounds terrific with a strong high definition audio transfer. Dialogue is clear, music sounds great and the Surround speakers are used extremely well with nice ambient textures even during quieter scenes.

Special Features:

The same featurettes have been ported over from the original DVD and include: “The Making of Miracle”, “From Hockey to Hollywood: The Actor’s Journeys”, “The Sound of Miracle”, “Miracle ESPN Roundtable with Linda Cohen”, “First Impressions: Herb Brooks with Kurt Russell and the Filmmakers”, “Audio commentary by Director O’Connor, DP Dan Stoloff and Editor John Gilroy plus outtakes” –go here for further information- http://www.dvdivas.net/movies/reviews/m/miracle.html.

Final Words:

An inspiring, powerful story “Miracle” looks terrific in its Blu-ray debut.
