Review:

It's Sex & The City meets Desperate Housewives with BBC's steamy and seductive Mistresses about four female friends from all walks of life who has secret, forbidden, and romantic trysts. The show debuted last year and became a hit with viewers, and came over statewide earlier this year Friday nights on BBC America. Volume one is a four-disc set that consists of three episodes from season one. ***

Katie is a doctor who has an affair with her dying patient John, and helps end his suffering; Trudy is a widowed mother of two children whose husband died on 9/11, but she has reason to believe that he's still alive -- while at the same time starts a relationship with single father Richard. Jessica is the prowler in the group: a mistress to both men and women that includes future Fringe star Anna Torv, who plays lesbian bride Alex. Siobhan is a successful lawyer who struggles to have a baby with husband Hari, but that begin to put on a strain on her as she starts having an affair with co-worker Dominic. However, when she reconcile with Hari, Siobhan's expecting, but there's one question: who's the father? ***

Final Words:

Despite excellent ratings, Mistresses is on hiatus for the time being, as there has been no word yet for a renewal of season three. The cable network Lifetime was set to create an American version of the series with former Charmed witch Holly Marie Combs and former Baywatch hottie Brooke Burns, but the pilot wasn't picked up. Still, see why it is intriguing to be one of the Mistresses with Volume One available on DVD.
