NCIS premiered in 2003 and has been an instant hit
for CBS. Co-created by Donald Bellasario (who created the
hit series JAG several years prior), and featuring an all-star
cast, the series has not failed to please. ***
The NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service) is
the primary law enforcement agency of the United States
Navy. The series follows a team of agents with this branch
that are sent on high-profile missions integral to the safety
of the country. ***
NCIS works as a show because it’s more than a generic
military drama series. The plots are intriguing, and I actually
care about what happens to these characters. It’s a show
that takes the time to develop its storylines and players,
and the end result is a far superior product as a result.
An all-star cast, sharp writing, and good direction only
contribute to the overall package. Each season so far has
been excellent, and it is no surprise that the show continues
to air. ***
This 6-disc set contains all 25 episodes of the 6th
season of the series. ---
Image and Sound:
The show gets a sharp, detailed transfer. There aren’t
any major flaws to speak of and detail is strong. The audio
is strong throughout, mostly dialogue-intensive but there
are a few moments that really make good use of the mix.
It’s a good transfer, sound and picture-wise alike.
