Scottish prog rockers Pallas took a long break after
their second album albums making many fans wonder if they
would ever release another album (it was 13 years for those
counting). The third album showed up and was followed in
rapid succession by the band's fourth album (rapid by their
standards--two years later). From there the band released
albums in a consistent stream over the years. "Moment to
Moment" represents the band's third DVD and it was recorded
on Halloween night in 2007 in Katowice, Poland before an
enthusiastic group of fans. I suppose the best way to imagine
Pallas' sound if you haven't heard them before is to think
of the prog sound of Marillion and you'll have a good idea
as to the band's sound. I realize this is a cliche (this
comparison has been around as long as the band has) but
it's true--not in a bad way though. They aren't imitatative
so much as they expand on the sound that Marillion established
(which also borrowed from Gabriel era Genesis as well).
***
The band is in top form in the performance and although
they will never be confused with more crowd pleasing hard
rockers such as Aerosmith or even the blues infused The
Black Crowes, they pull off the show with just enough showmanship
to make it work. Such fan favorites as "Warriors" or "Ghostdancers"
sound and look terrific in their DVD debut. ---
Image & Sound:
Shot on HD, the presentation is nearly flawless although
a few digital artifacts crop up now and again. Audio sounds
terrific with a crisp, 5.1 presentation. ---
