In what could be the oddest release to come shambling
out of the Warner Bros animated vaults the return of Plastic
Man. Through he had three series in the late 70's (1979)
& the early 80's (1980) he's really more a cult favorite
that's been around almost as long as DC's heavy hitters
premiered in Police Comics (1) in (1941), through the character
has had a very confusing history to be honest but in this
release and in this series it takes mostly a slapstick approach
to him. He's always been a wisecracking hero never taking
anything seriously not even himself, in the series Plastic
takes on a gaggle of would be villains none of these with
the exception of classic Superman villain, Toyman have either
popped up since or in the comics on the DVD episodes include
all the episodes of the first season and the first (3) of
the second season of the series basically he traveled the
world battling the lamest collection of would-be supervillans
ever.
Image and Sound:
Not good compared to other Warner Brothers animated
efforts, The Sound is bearable at best and the picture quality
is pretty poor but considering this is from the tail end
of the 70's - early 80's. Warner Brothers restoration efforts
tried there best.

The unaired plot for a 2000 revival it's good but kudos
to Warner Brothers for the documentary on here that explains
Plastic Man's history both pre & post crisis on infinite
earths through it doesn't quite verify if this Plastic Man
is the Earth 2 version or the one currently serving in the
Justice League of America or not.***
The documentary tries to explain his history as simply
as they can, these includes interviews with DC comics writer
Mark Evanier Plastic Man's English voice actor Tom Kenny
and animation producer James Tucker.

Final Words:
|
A good (4) disk collection of
the first (2) seasons of the Plastic Man animated series through
the documentary on here does explain quite a bit about his
long history, but one question remains what about the two spin
off series that were produced, Is Warner Brothers depending
on sales of this (4) disk set releasing the last two series
hopefully the answer will be YES and hopefully in the future
perhaps WB will return to the character in the future. |
