Country music superstar Reba McEntire proves that she
is an survivor, and she continues to show that in her self-titled
sitcom Reba, whose final season has been released on DVD.
Featuring all 13 episodes, the show chronicles the trials
and tribulations of headstrong, long-suffering, fiery redhead
Reba Hart, who has to juggle between raising her wacky,
extended family: recovering alcoholic daughter Cheyenne
(Joanna Garcia), son-in-law and business partner Van (Steve
Howey), sarcastic middle sibling Kyra (Scarlett Pomers),
youngest Jake (Mitch Holleman), ex-husband Brock (Christopher
Rich) and wife Barbara Jean (Melissa Peterman), who considers
Reba her best friend -- despite the fact that she had an
affair with Brock while married to Reba. ***
Since debuting on the then-WB in the fall of 2001,
Reba was the highest-rated sitcom every Friday night, and
continued to maintained strong ratings when picked up the
CW moved to Sunday nights. Reba was named by the 2002 People
Choice's Awards as Favorite Female Perfomer in a New Television
Series, and was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2004 for
Lead Actress in a Comedy. ***
The sixth season kicks off with the return of Kyra,
who has been absent for most of season five due to Pomers'
real-life battle with bulimia, as Barbara Jean lost weight
(Peterman was pregnant last season). The final season finds
big changes for everyone, with Cheyenne and Van expecting
their second child, Kyra deciding to forego college and
pursue her music career full-time, and Barbara Jean becoming
a weather reporter. Once again, despite keeping her blood
pressure low, Reba is forced to be the mediator, but no
matter what happens, the entire Hart family are survivors.
