As season five opens for “Rescue Me” it seems like
Tommy (Denis Leary) needs more than rescued—he needs a psychiatrist
to deal with all the issues at hand. At the conclusion of
season 4 Tommy’s dad died suddenly leaving Tommy with some
unresolved issues. Add along the fact that Tommy’s ex-wife
Janet has a new man in her life (Michael J. Fox returning
to TV in a marvelous, off-beat performance) which means
that she doesn’t need him anymore. Meanwhile Needles ()
tries to gain the respect and loyalty of the rest of the
fire crew. Life is complicated. ***
The fifth season of “Rescue Me” remained as emotionally
complicated, messy and interesting as the first four. While
Tommy’s dad is no longer around to entertain hookers at
his uncle’s house, he’s haunting Tommy. Denis Leary continues
to command the stage on the show but he’s also generous
with all of his co-stars creating memorable stories for
each one of them equally as compelling as Tommy’s own story.

Image & Sound:
Shot in HD the clarity of the show is remarkably good.
The amount of grain that you see in the show is intentional.
Colors are extremely good throughout. Clarity and detail
are extremely good. I’m interested in seeing the Blu-ray
for this once it is released. *** Audio sounds quite good
with nice activity in all the surround speakers. The surround
5.1 mix is active and involving throughout. ---
