Collection 1: “Return of the Mummy.”
In the title story, Gabe visits his archaeologist uncle
in Egypt just as he unearths the tomb of a great prince.
They encounter a problem when resurrected mummies begin
seeking revenge on whoever has brought them to life. The
second story, “Don’t Wake Mummy,” tells of Jeff Carter,
who receives a 4,000-year-old mummy from his father. Trouble
ensues when the vengeful zombie awakens from its sarcophagus.
In the final story, “You Can’t Scare Me,” Eddie and Hat
devise a plot to scare one of their friends with Mud Monsters
down at Muddy Creek. Unfortunately, it backfires. ***
Collection 2:
“The Scarecrow Walks at Midnight.” The title story
tells of siblings Jodie and Mark, who discover twelve strange
scarecrows on their grandparents’ farm. In the second story,
“Don’t Go to Sleep,” Matt Amsterdam falls asleep in the
attic, wishing his family were different. When he awakens,
he’s horrified to realize that his wish may have been granted.
The last story, “Calling All Creeps,” features Ricky Beamer,
a boy who wants to get back at a mean girl by placing her
phone number in a personal ad. But he’s the one who keeps
getting eerie midnight phone calls. ***
