The breakout ABC Family hit The Secret Life of the
American Teenager's first season has been divided into two
DVD sets. Volume One, which consists of eleven episodes
has been titled "Season One", as this current one -- Volume
Two -- will be "Season Two". This confusion was due to the
network, who said these episodes were promoted as the new
season but later on stated it was because of production
reasons. So, to clear things up, the second season will
officially start on June 24 with an expected 24 episode-pickup.
Get it, got it? Good. ***
Having more viewers than Gossip Girl, the show follows
15-year-old Amy, who endures trials and tribulations of
being an expected teen mom, as this pregnancy affects those
around her -- including her parents, whose marriage is already
on shaky ground. All of the episodes has been written by
Brenda Hampton, the woman responsible for bringing 7th Heaven
to Earth for 11 seasons, as 90210 alumni Jason Priestley
and good ol' Duke boy John Schneider stepped into the director's
chair this season. ***
Volume 2 (12 episodes) starts off with "The Secret Wedding
of the American Teenager", as we're invited to the nupitals
of Amy and Ben, who used fake IDs (they're under 18, so
what did you expect?); however, their marriage turns out
to be not legal. Meanwhile, as Amy feels her baby kick for
the first time, she enlists help from the church to make
sure her parents remain together. We begin to know more
about brooding bad boy Ricky due his volatile relationship
with his father, who's out on parole with plans for his
grandchild, leaving Amy to consider adoption, as her relationship
with Ben gets tested, and Ricky having thoughts of stepping
into fatherhood. The final two episodes leads up Amy going
into labor, as we watch how Amy and Ricky first met, as
Amy prepares to give birth, and what happens in the end
will not only change everything for her, but probably to
those around her and her family forever. ***
