“Frank Sinatra"-(Live at the Meadowlands)

Review:

Sinatra goes home again in this live album recorded in 1986 at the Meadowlands in New Jersey. I doubt anybody expected Sinatra to be up to performing live at 70 but he tackles the songs included here with gusto relishing the experience of performing. Sinatra performs a triumphant gig. Yes, this isn’t the Sinatra we know from the 40’s, 50’s or even the 60’s and whatever he had lost in vocal ability he made up for with his ability to interpret a song. ---

Sound:

Unlike a lot of recent CDs the music isn’t mastered at maximum volume or horribly compressed. The fidelity is fairly good throughout with a nice dynamic range. ---

Sinatra opens by digging deep in his own past opening with “Without a Song” one of the first songs that Sinatra performed with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra back in the day. Sinatra continues tackling a variety of the best songs and those that he held dearest as a singer throughout the performance. Sinatra closes with “Mack the Knife” Bobby Darin’s signature song doing a terrific reading (Sinatra had tackled it before himself) of the song closing out the show on a high note.

Final Words:

Sinatra fans will enjoy this homecoming from one of the master performers of the American songbook.
