“Frank Sinatra-Classic Sinatra- (II) - (CD)

Review:

Success always begets success and in this case the success of “Classic Sinatra” that Capitol released nearly a decade ago has prompted the label to go back to the well and reissue another compilation of Sinatra classics. Although “Classic Sinatra II” doesn’t have any of the key Sinatra classics, it has a solid group of terrific songs that Sinatra tackles admirably. ***

Sinatra’s Capitol years were very good years indeed. This means that we get a terrific selection of material available on this set. Opening with “Something’s Gotta Give” from the classic album “Come Dance with Me” an album so full of swing that Tarzan would have felt right at home this is followed by “Too Marvelous for Words”, “I Thought About You”, “ Pennies from Heaven” and “Love is Here to Stay” f setting the pace for a set almost the equal of the first “Classic Sinatra” CD from a decade ago. ***

Other classics include “Love and Marriage” best known now as the theme song for the TV show “Married with Children” and we also get the classic song “Angel Eyes” as a bonus track closing out the album with class. ---

Sound:

Many of the songs included here (but not all) haven’t appeared on CD before or in quite some time making this a treat for Sinatra fans. The audio mastering by Dave McEowen is extremely good with a nice dynamic range. There is the occasional hint of compression but it’s not as offensive as most modern albums. ---.

Final Words:

Fans of Sinatra will enjoy this set which combines a variety of classics and lesser known but songs equally as good in a nice long delayed follow up to the original “Classic Sinatra”
