When "Snatch" opens, you might think that
your going to get a typical crime caper. Far from it, in
fact, It's a multi-layered movie with an ensemble cast featuring
a who's who of cinema and TV. The cast features Brad Pitt
(The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button) as a journeyman gypsy
Irish boxer, Dennis Farina (Law & Order & Crime Story) as
a New York gangster, Benecio Del Toro as an totally clueless
thief & ex UK soccer star Vinny Jones making his debut.
***
In the film, these characters are hunting for a missing
diamond. and if you think your going to get a movie by the
books, that's where your wrong DEAD wrong! The film is set
in a Damon Runyan-esque London. "Snatch" is about
stolen diamonds, crooked prizefights, man eating pigs, and
the dumbest dog in the world, not to mention really inept
wannabe gangsters. Basically, if you've seen "Lock
Stock & Two Smoking Barrel" or most of the director(
Guy Ritchie) work, like the most recent "Rock"N"Rolla",
you have a somewhat general idea of what to expect. Just
think of it as a very chaotic and anarchic black comedy,
but with tons of charm and humor. ---
Image and Sound:
Very good picture and audio on this disc. There are
almost no flaws in the picture worth reporting, and the
sound mix is solid as well. It's a solid transfer in terms
of audio and video alike, and this transfer definitely stays
true to the film crew's intent. It certainly doesn't feel
overprocessed, like many transfers from other studios.

This version has most of the content from the re-releases.
Thankfully, they kept the "pikey" joke subtitles, so you
can partially understand Brad Pitt on just what the heck
is he is even saying throughout the film. Also, a Guy Ritchie
commentary is included along with the Stealing Stones Branching
Paths, I'm really glad they kept the pikey subtitles on
here. Hopefully on the forthcoming Blu-Ray version we will
finally get a cast & crew commentary track as well.

Final Words:

The BEST gangster/comedy/crime caper EVER. Especially
Brad Pitt's turn as an Irish boxer with an accent that must
be heard to believed. They'll make you say "What did he
say?" Especially on the DVD extras that you can turn on
the subs for the Pikey accent. Trust me, if you think listing
to Brad talking without the subs is troublesome with the
subs on, it's downright funny as hell even though this film
is several years old now it still stands up after all this
time,I'd put it up there with any crime caper movie from
the last decade, even matching it up with the "The Bank
Job" from last year.
HOPEFULLY Sony will put in all the bonuses from the
various versions of snatch on the Blu-Ray version that's
coming out this Christmas.
