Review:

It ain't easy being a Diva especially when you're vocal about your political beliefs. Barbra Streisand's "The Concerts" raises the bar so-to-speak with a series of intimate performances captured in recorded in July 1994 and again in 2006 the later concert reflecting when Streisand was still under a political cloud in many respects because Buba was still in office. Likewise over a decade later we get a show from 2006 that captures her in top form and looking terrific. ***

Perhaps it's because she performs so rarely today or just the fact that she takes care of her voice but one would be hard pressed to find any difference in the quality of her voice between those tweleve years of performing. We can even compare these later career performances to pieces of previous ones as the third disc has excerpts from her TV specials done in the 1960's. The fun of the 1994 concert is, perhaps, the most simply because you can play spot-the-celebrity as it was a star studded event. ---

Image & Sound:

Both performances look top notch with nice detail and a finely tuned 5.1 Surround Sound vocal/musical track. ---

Special Features:

We get two bonus performances from the 2006 concert including "Nobody's Heart Belongs to Me" which she hadn't performed in nearly 20 years in a concert setting and a stunning "When the Sun Comes Out" which, again, performed in quite some time. The third disc also features a combination of clips from various TV specials that Streisand made in the 1960's when her star was at its peak as a performer. ---

Final Words:

A terrific document of Streisand in top form, "The Concerts" is a terrific set that those who love traditional material will immediately take to. As much as I love rock and admire rap, neither can touch the technical expertise on display here.
