Gag reel

Review:

The second season of “Third Watch” finally arrives but not without a caveat for fans of the show; the series appears with music substitution. I can’t exactly pin point where the substitution occurs- (but have a pretty good guess) simply because I didn’t catch the second season on its original run. I’m surprised that this occurred in this day and age. For those that didn’t watch the first season of the show it focuses on those folks that have the 3 to 11pm shift or the “third watch” of the day covering rescue situations that vary from emergency 911 calls to the rivalry between various stations. One of the outstanding episodes includes “Jimmy’s Mountain” where series regular Doherty who was near death in the first season finale after being shot multiple times fights back to regain his life the way it was before the injury; he returns to the station believing he can tackle anything again but finds that he falls short of his previous standards dealing with standard situations that suddenly are filled with fear because of his experience and the chronic pain he’s experiencing. In the same episode a reserve firefighter (played by guest star Amy Carlson) transfers into the same station and is viewed with suspicion by the other firefighters because she had filed a sexual harassment complaint against another firefighter well liked by the members of the station. ---

Image & Sound: A solid looking transfer with natural looking flesh tones and solid colors are a highlight of this set. The show has some minor artifacts that pop up from time-to-time BUT they aren’t distracting nor are they a problem. Fine detail is quite nice throughout the show. ***

Audio sounds quite nice with surround activity during the action sequences.

Special Features:

Sadly no commentary tracks for the show but we do get an amusing gag reel. ---

Final Words:

The second season of “Third Watch” a perfect companion series to “ER” arrives with some music substitutions (probably songs used although I can’t be sure because they don’t pinpoint where these things occur). Given that the series arrives largely intact, I can recommend it but fans should be aware this isn’t exactly like the original release. Kudos to Warner for being honest and upfront about these changes although they didn't have to, also the studio deserves a nice round of applause for a nice looking set that fans will enjoy.
