Tom and Jerry return for yet another outing in this
third release of classic cartoons from the golden age of
American animation features the MGM shorts produced between
(1941-1956) it's a great sampler of classic Hanna-Barbera
produced shorts. ***
This collection includes,"Blue Cat Blues"
which does tackle some adult themes and has been rarely
shown on TV, In this one Tom attempts suicide and Jerry
explains via flashback, "A Kitty With A Broken Heart"
presents the topic of death/heaven & hell but in a comedic
vein of course. Also on this release "Designs On Jerry",which
gets very weird because Tom in this is making blueprints
on how to capture Jerry and the blueprint he is making somehow
come to life and tells Jerry of Tom's plan and as usual
his plans come undone. "Pecos Pest" which introduces
Jerry's uncle Pecos from where else Texas in this he sings
a song called "Crambo" which is a butchered amalgam of "Frog
Went A-Courtin" & "Froggy Went A-Wooing Go" in puttin' on
the dog. ***
In the "Two Mouseketeers" the first part
of a tetraoligy featuring re-imaginings of Alexander Dumas's
the three musketeers in which Jerry & his baby cousin Nibbles
(aka Tufy) are musketeers who decied to raid a nobleman's
banqut which Tom has been ordered to guard, if he fails
to deal with the interlopers it's "Off Comes Ze Head" meanwhile
after the first of two duels with Tom have ended in stalmates
Nibbles starts to drunkenly sing Alouete to himself while
he yells at Tom and of course Tom finally catches Jerry
and basically wrecks & destroys the noblemans castle in
responce in a oddly grusome ending that would be right in
something like the "Saw" movies but they wouldn't happen
for at least some 5 decades. Poor Tom looses his head to
the guillotine both Jerry & Nibbles gulp hard and we here
Nibbles say for the dead pussycat "Pauvre, pauvre, pussycat",
(Poor, poor pussycat) and shrugs and says "C'est la guerre."
(That's war) ---
Image and Sound:
actually perty well peserved but the picture is old

the flying sorcress & blue cat blues the rest are in (1.33.1)
widescreen as well all the shorts have been remixed in dolby
