Based on the hit 1961 film, Voyage to the Bottom of
the Sea was the first creation from writer/producer/Irwin
Allen, who also went on to become famous for the disaster
film genre like 1972's The Towerno Inferno -- earning the
nickname "The Master of Disaster" . The premise of the series
revolves around the crew of the Seaview submarine investigating
the mysteries of nature and fighting forces that threatens
the fate of all humanity. ***
The show's fourth and final season (shown in color)
has been spilt into two parts on DVD -- with the first 13
episodes being released as Volume 1. Season four starts
with the crew still in the 1980s, with Victor Jory playing
a 5,000 year-old alchemist. Other missions include Admiral
Nelson (Richard Basehart) being haunted by the curse of
the Flying Dutchman, the crew's attempts to stop a large
underwater magnet drawing the moon to Earth, and a man from
the future sending two androids to kidnap the Admiral --
adding him to his list of collections of military figures
from the past. ***
