The
Review |
Having just hit the shelves on 10-06-03,
this latest DVD release has landed on my review stack, and
there's alot to talk about. First off, this isn't your ordinary
set list by the John Wetton Band. How about picking from the
long and illustrious career of Mr. Wetton, some real prog?
Well, an A+ for effort goes out to these guys for doing just
that. Aside from Wetton's solo stuff, here we also have renditions
of UK's 'The The Dead Of Night' , and 'Rendezvous 6:02', Asia's
'Sole Survivor' (and 'Heat of the Moment', but so what...right?),
and King Crimson's 'Red', and 'Starless'. WOW! All that and
a bag of chips. The band is the stellar lineup of Arena guitarist
John Mitchell, IQ/Jadis keys master Marin Orford, Jadis' drummer
Steve Christie, and of couse Wetton. The big story here is
Wetton's voice. After having to cancel numerous shows last
tour due to voice problems, his voice sounds great here.
Guitarist Mitchell absolutely tears
it up BIG TIME with licks galore worthy of comparison to Holdsworth,
and of course keyboardist Orford provides his usual dead on
performance, both in sound and technique. The lighting here
is great, especially for a small club, in which this show
was filmed. The camera angles are varied and well shot. The
sound is excellent, with a 5.1 mix as well. A great show.
Worthy of addition to your collection. By the way, it's in
PAL format, so check your machine for compatability. (Eric
