Review:

The crew of Wild Pacific includes Huw Cordrey, Mark Brownlow, Chiara Bellati, Jonathan Clay, Benedict Cumberbatch, and William Carrey. ***

Wild Pacific is a documentary that lives up to its name, covering the vast expanse of the Pacific Ocean. Multiple episodes appear on the disc, and each covers a different subject matter, from the wildlife under the ocean to raging, active volcanoes. ***

When it comes to nature documentaries, BBC never fails to please. Once again, they create a product that is both entertaining and educational to viewers. It doesn’t matter who you are, if you’re a fan of documentary filmmaking, nature shows, or both, Wild Pacific will make a worthwhile addition to your Blu-Ray collection. Even with each of the episodes clocking in at nearly an hour, they never feel boring, dragged-out, or outstaying their welcome. It’s t ough to review documentaries, especially considering so many touch upon similar subject matters to this one, but Wild Pacific stands out as one of the finest in recent years. ---

Image and Sound:

As you’d expect from a BBC nature documentary, Wild Pacific looks and s ounds pretty damn good in 1080p. Throughout, the image is bright and vibrant, and there is an astonishing amount of detail in every shot. Some minor flaws rear their heads every once in a while, but nothing really jumps out at me as a distraction. ***

Sadly, the audio mix is a bit disappointing, being very front-heavy with the emphasis mostly on the dialogue. This isn’t a terrible audio mix, but this reviewer expected more to go along with the crisp, beautiful visuals.

Special Features:

Each episode has its own behind-the-scenes featurette. While brief, these are definitely an entertaining view for fans of the series.

Final Words:

Wild Pacific delivers what it promises and then some. The solid documentary is presented here is gorgeous 1080p, and overall the package rises above its lackluster audio track and fairly scarce bonus material. Flaws aside, Wild Pacific on Blu-Ray is highly recommended!
