Review:

Wrong Turn 3 directed by Declan O'Brien, and starring Janet Montgomery, Tamer Hassan and Chucky Venice. ***

A college student and her friends head to the woods for a rafting trip. But a killer murders her friends, leaving her on her own. Thing take a turn for the worst when a transport full of criminals being moved enters the mix, as well as the discovery of an abandoned vehicle filled with money. Will she survive, or will the killer or the criminals get her? ***

It’s unreal that Wrong Turn, a sort of B-horror movie in its own right, has already spawned two sequels. The movie has a lot of good ideas going for it, but ultimately it just ends up coming off as another unneeded sequel to a film that, let’s put it bluntly, wasn’t good enough to require sequels in the first place. ***

The main problem with Wrong Turn 3 is that there are just too many random ideas thrown into the movie. A movie with college students in the woods on a rafting trip being hunted by a mysterious killer is more than enough to make a movie around. The filmmakers could have stopped here, but seemed to feel the need to throw in as many other elements and plot twists they possibly could. By the time we meet the criminals and learn of the money element, things just get so bloated and over-the-top that it becomes more laughable than scary. For a few cheap thrills and unintentional laughs, Wrong Turn 3 makes for a worthy rental – but I can’t recommend it on a larger scale. ---

Image and Sound:

A decent transfer. Black levels are inconsistent (and much of the movie DOES take place at night) and there is some noticeable artifacting, but other than this the picture looks pretty good for the most part. Audio gets the job done but also never quite rises above its low-budget, direct-to-video production. For the most part though the movie looks and sounds fine.

Special Features:

The disc contains a multi-part making-of documentary that any fan of the movie will want to watch, since it contains some interesting interviews and footage with cast and crew alike. Likewise, some deleted scenes appear on here as well, and while rightfully removed from the final product, they’re a worthwhile view for fans.

Final Words:

Wrong Turn 3 has a lot of issues as a movie, and the mediocre/average level transfer and extras keep me from recommending it on a large scale. Rent it if you’re curious – but I can’t recommend it as anything more than a rental.
