TV-Series

Review:

In Fox Broadcasting attempt in the mid 90's to do a faithfully adaption of the X-Men comic book series a lot of liberty's were taken with the source material. This re-release tries it's best to be the best of both worlds as far as the episodes go like adapting classic story's like 'the Dark Phoenix Saga' and the lead up to "The Age Of Apocalypse" called "Legion Quest", in these releases that have finally came out after almost 17 years of their original airings on Fox TV. ***

Marvel Studios and their new owner Disney finally released it, episodes included on this releases include on vol 3 Savage Land, Strange Heart parts 1-2, Obsession, The Dark Phoenix saga parts 1-4, Cold Comfort, Orphan's End, The Juggernaut Returns, Nightcrawler, Weapon X, Lies And Videotape, One Man's Worth parts 1-2 & Courage. ***

On vol 4 episodes include Proteus parts 1-2, Sanctuary parts 1-2, Beyond Good And Evil Parts 1-4, Have Yourself A Morlock Little Christmas, The Lotus And The Steel, Love In Vain, Secrets, Not Long Buried, Xavier Remembers, & Family Ties, ***

The screenwriter adapters at the time had to jump through a lot of hoops to get a lot of the comics to screen now comparing this to the movies or the comics it's just sad a case of "way to little much too late" through it does hold up fairly well. ---

Image and Sound:

Not very good the picture quality was good when it aired on TV but since the advent of hd it looks dated & faded, --- sound quality is muted at best the digital transfer was just bad and the sound well it fades in and out a lot.

Special Features:

Absolutely none & this is, and where Marvel Studios and Disney failed there's no bonus content at all nothing --- it's in full screen format in (1.33.1) full screen with Dolby digital surround sound

Final Words:

An utter disaster why the devil did it take Marvel Studios this long to bring out a modern classic like X-Men the animated series on DVD, Disney kept the rights for so long now this release was rendered almost irrelevant but at least they finally brought it out but it's a case of "too little too late" for the historical story like the "Dark Phoenix Saga" & "The Age Of Apocalypse" & "Legion Quest" this is only and i mean only for hardcore X-Men fans only for everyone else it's only a rental hopefully Disney and Marvel Studios in the future will finally fix it on a Blu-ray re-issue and there's a lot of issues that need fixing like the picture quality and the sound or perhaps lots & lots of archival interviews with the Va's and of course my own wish list to be fixed a wide screen HD version as well, had Marvel Studios been smart about this and released this around the time of the first X-Men Movie in 2000, it would have been a good thing but now it's too late. Disney dropped the ball on this, but they tried there best it really wasn't good enough, this re-release is only for either their fans ONLY,it's good enough for a rental and perhaps a buy maybe but honestly with better X-Men adaptions on the market rather they be with the comics which are more mature or the other newer X-Men animated series is only of nostalgia value.
