I find it ironic that the United States national parks
get more attention from the BBC than they do from their
domestic brethren. The truth is that shows that celebrate
the wonder of our land are, sadly, less interesting to viewers
to seeing people lose an enormous amount of weight, a reality
show following the spoiled housewives of a wealthy community
or publicly fondling someone for reality TV. Ah, you’ve
got to love the wonder and mystery of the American consumer.

“Yellowstone” gives the well regarded BBC team another
opportunity to do an outstanding job of delivering the goods.
A spectacular looking Blu-ray that takes advantage of the
high def format in ways most people never imagined, we get
to see everything from the park’s glorious Grand Prismatic
Pool to the detailed, weathered stone of the park. Show
over the course of a year, it gives us a year in the life
of a national treasure, the things that change during that
time frame and the things that, sometimes, sadly don’t.

Split into three fifty minute episodes the first section
thrusts us into the bitterly cold and harsh winter in the
park following life through each season (although ideally
it would have been split between four segments with one
focusing on each of the 4 distinctive seasons). We see the
animals struggling to survive during a brutal but not unusual
winter with everything from bison struggling to find found
to the elk escaping wolves. ---
Image & Sound:
As mentioned this is a beautiful looking Blu-ray with
every detail of the landscape whether during the unforgiving
winter or the generous explosion of life during spring nicely
captured and rendered in high definition. ***
The rich, dense sounding audio track nicely captures
all the elements, the sounds of life and death. ---
